I heard that some co-workers talked excitedly when I stay in my dormitory. I went out to see what happened, then saw one of aborigine co-workers, Wu-gine grabbed a raptor with his hand. Oh! It’s quite worth to be excited. I realize this event form their description .

 

First Wu-gine found this raptor pull off feathers from a pigeon on the trees beside the dormitory before. After he left, this raptor took pigeon through trees to laundry area. Then A-Fen, another co-worker lives in the same building with me rode scooter pass clothesline area. This raptor got a shock from her and flew away immediately. A-Fen saw the pigeon corps then found the raptor stood on the trestle of blueberry yard. It might be too rash to get hooked by net of blueberry yard. Wu-gine’s being at this dormitory at this moment was coincidence. He caught this raptor from the net easily. I followed him to office and shew it to co-workers ,because watching a raptor so closely is very rare. Wu-gine had to finish duty, so he gave me this raptor and left. Finally I placed it on a peach tree, but it didn’t stood on the tree then just flew away. Then the raptor was disappear in the wall of trees.

 

I recognize it as Crested Goshawk, Accipiter trivirgatus formosae at the outset. The second day I knew it was Besra, Accipiter virgatus fuscipectus after my friend reminded on website.

Scientific name : Accipiter virgatus fuscipectus

Common name: Besra, 台灣松雀鷹

Size : Body length 25~36cm. Spread width 51~70cm.

Diet : Bird majorly, insect, lizard, mice ,frog.

Habitat: They like to hide in forests at low or middle altitude. This subspecies is smallest resident raptor and endemic in Taiwan.

Besra was in Wu-gine’s hand when I went out.

  

Wu-gine wore gloves.

  

Besra looked at me.

  

Besra’s tail and legs. Their legs are thinner than Crested Goshawk.

  

These dropped feather were come from a pigeon.

  

Besra were stuck in the net of blueberry yard.

  

This pigeon corps was Oriental Turtle Dove, Streptopelia orientalis oril.

A stripe was significant on the middle of its throat.
